Get Your Lawn Ready —
Before and After Installation.
Site prep is on you (or your landscaper) before our crew shows up. Once your new sod is down, follow this guide to help it root and thrive. Need a landscaper? Just ask when you call for your quote.
Prep Your Site First
These two steps need to be finished before our installation crew shows up. This part is on you or your landscaper — not us.
Clear & Grade the Site
Remove all debris — rocks, roots, and organic matter. Rough-grade the entire area and till to a minimum depth of 4–6 inches to create a clean, level foundation.
- Remove rocks, roots & all debris
- Till 4–6" minimum depth
- Grade for positive drainage
Prep & Test the Soil
Add quality topsoil, then run a chemical soil pH test to identify any amendments needed. Apply starter fertilizer, level, and roll the surface smooth before we lay sod.
- Add & spread topsoil layer
- pH test + fertilizer application
- Roll for a level surface
Don't have time to prep the site yourself? Give us a call — we're happy to recommend a trusted local landscaper to get your site ready before our crew arrives.
Caring for Your New Sod
Once your sod is down, how you care for it in the first few weeks makes all the difference.
Watering
Water daily — or more often on hot days. Keep sod consistently moist until firmly rooted. Expect this phase to last approximately two weeks during the growing season.
Frequency
After rooting-in, shift to less frequent but deeper watering. Supplement rainfall shortages only. Avoid fixed-timer irrigation, which overrides natural soil moisture cycles.
Weather
North Texas conditions dictate irrigation needs. Ensure your lawn has enough moisture to survive hot, dry, or windy periods — particularly during July and August peak heat.
Structures & Berms
Areas near buildings and on raised berms dry out faster from reflected heat. Water these zones more frequently than open lawn areas to prevent die-back at edges.
